Armed with an entrepreneurial spirit, limitless passion and an uninhibited drive, Holly Carter started Carter & Co. Communications after either founding or being a major part of several companies since the 1990s. Her understanding of client needs, ability to create cost-effective plans with measurable goals and the use of strategic partnerships has allowed this company to thrive in a previously underserved and unnoticed market place.
Carter’s success has hinged on a unique ability to cultivate relationships with business leaders and elected officials from the local, state and federal levels. Through those relationships, Carter understands that each client’s communication needs are different, and her creative approaches to fulfilling them have been tailored as such.
Carter started her first business, a boutique real estate firm in Visalia, Calif., in 1993 with the goal of creating a brokerage that could thrive in a housing recession. This took creativity, forward thinking and strategic collaborations, and by the end of the company’s second year, Carter had annual sales in excess of $13 million.
That is when other professionals took notice. MCI Corporations tabbed Carter to be one of the heads of its Commercial Sales Division. She did not disappoint, gaining a market share in the central San Joaquin Valley by helping initiate partnerships that led to virtual classrooms in Fresno, Kern, Tulare and Kings counties.
After serving an internship with Congressman George Radanovich, specializing in resolving constituent challenges, Carter was recruited to be Executive Director for the Fresno County Republican Party. There she gained national recognition for implementing leadership development, intern and marketing programs and had record fundraising efforts. She also successfully campaigned for elections of seven candidates and numerous propositions.
Recognized as one of the area’s stars in her field, Carter became the Central Valley Managing Director for Passantino Anderson, a prestigious communications firm based in Lancaster, Calif. One of her most significant accomplishments in that role was gaining approval for construction of a Walmart Superstore in Clovis, Calif., a project that had been denied for more than seven years prior to Carter’s involvement.
Living in part of the state where agricultural business is a driving force for the economy, Carter spends one day a month as a member of the FAACT Class with the Fresno Farm Bureau, a class dedicated to teaching about ag-related business.
Carter, a cancer survivor, has also donated her time and skills in fundraising, event planning and promotion to numerous cancer-support organizations. She also runs a non-profit organization called “The Face of Cancer,” helping reunite women with their sense of beauty and femininity during and after fights with cancer. Carter is also a single mother of four.
